THERE IS NO BAN ON WOOD BURNING STOVES (Confirmed by DEFRA).... - Natural Heating Announcement

PLEASE SEE BELOW INFO REGARDING MEDIA / PRESS AWARENESS ON WOOD BURNING AND MULTI FUEL STOVES

Contrary to belief from all the worried people calling and sending us messages , NO ONE is going to take your existing stove away !

I therefore thought I'd take the time to write a memo that may help many of you.

DEFRA AND THE CLEAN AIR STRATEGY HAVE CONFIRMED THAT THERE ARE NO PLANS TO BAN STOVES !!!!!

All stove manufacturers are working towards new standards to be set for new stoves from 2022 and have been for a long time now.

It's like high powered vacuum cleaners to some extent. You can still use it if you have one - you just can't buy a new one now to the standard of the one you PREVIOUSLY owned... so come 2022 - stoves will be made a little differently.

From 2022 they'll be designed to burn hotter inside the firebox to therefore produce less dust particles in the gasses. This generally means you'll have a bit less control over the burn as it burns hotter, faster with more frequent reload time..... but be more environmentally friendly.

Fuel consumption should be as good as you get now - you'll just load less and more often.
Wet wood however (mainly bought on garage forecourts) is the biggest pollutant. Put rubbish in, get rubbish out... no matter what stove you've got !
If the glass and flue are getting really dirty, you are either burning fuel that is not good / dry enough, not controlling the stove properly or have insufficient draw and it needs looking at to find out the cause and correct
***********************************************************
You'll not be able to overnight burn in the newer stoves for example as you'll be unable to shut down long enough. Long, slow burns is what creates more carbon build up.
For those who WANT / NEED overnight burn facilities or boiler stoves... it's time to get on and buy what you want whilst you can still get it ... whilst stoves that still meet your requirements are being made. Many are already starting to change over production to the new standards
Don't say we didn't warn you !
We have a lot of new Eco Design Ready 2022 stove models now in stock... but have also banked up really good warehouse stocks of current stove models whilst we can for people that want the bigger fireboxes and longer burn times. When they're gone, they'll be gone....
*****************************************************************
Hope this helps

Below is an email I received yesterday from HETAS who are the recognised body for stove installers
Copied and pasted :
The Clean Air Strategy 2019 | An Update from HETAS
We wanted to update you on the reaction of HETAS to this week’s publication of the governments Clean Air Strategy 2019.
HETAS summarised many of the key developments in a post last year in a post about misleading headlines relating to the banning of wood stoves, with many of these points remaining applicable to the strategy published this week. Here are the key action points from the Clean Air Strategy 2019.
Legislate to prohibit sale of the most polluting fuels
Ensure that only the cleanest stoves are available for sale by 2022
Make changes to existing smoke control legislation to make it easier to enforce
Give new powers to local authorities to take action in areas of high pollution
Work across government to look at opportunities to align our work on air quality, clean growth and fuel poverty in future policy design
Develop a dedicated communications campaign targeted at domestic burners, to improve awareness of the environmental impact of their actions
Work with industry to identify an appropriate test standard for new solid fuels entering the market
Read our latest post about what industry is doing in relation to each of these points.
HETAS, Woodsure, SIA and others are of course busy engaging with all of these issues using their individual perspectives to influence as appropriate.
