It has a clearance distance of just 100mm to combustibles behind and just 200mm to the sides (though I have mentioned to Vanessa that the log basket etc may curr ently be just snitch too close for comfort !) For this reason, we recommend this unit a lot for fitting against internal walls or conservatories. Lovely email from a customer today regarding a universal coal grate purchased from us last week. Eventually, spare parts often become discontinued for older stoves and original parts can become unavailable. It then becomes a very frustrating exercise (often impossible) trying to find compatible parts. For this reason, we designed our universal coal grates. These are specially designed so the customer or fitter can easily modify the item to suit. You can cut it to fit with an angle  grinder or alternatively add "wings" to extend out a bit if you are between sizes... but not so much that you really need or want to go to the larger size.
