Lovely email from a customer today regarding a universal coal grate purchased from us last week.
Eventually, spare parts often become discontinued for older stoves and original parts can become unavailable. It then becomes a very frustrating exercise (often impossible) trying to find compatible parts.
For this reason, we designed our universal coal grates. These are specially designed so the customer or fitter can easily modify the item to suit. You can cut it to fit with an angle grinder or alternatively add "wings" to extend out a bit if you are between sizes... but not so much that you really need or want to go to the larger size. Legs and retaining bar are movable and adjustable in both position and length

Just a quick note to say thank you very much indeed for the help and advice given when I ordered the Universal Grate. What I thought was going to be a nightmare was so easy cutting and fitting, I had given up hope of finding the manufacturer or any spares !!
The stove now works a treat. Once again thank you what a great piece of kit I will spread the word.

The legs provided can be fitted anywhere within the waffle shaped grate area.
The grate legs have marked cutting points - to make it easier to cut legs to the same height should you need to shorten them.
Likewise, the front retaining bar can also be bolted practically anywhere on your grate and is also designed so you can cut down to the required length.
The waffle style base part of the grate system is simply designed so it is easy to change placement of legs and retainer bar and can be easily cut down in width or length with an angle grinder. Using a ruler and a permanent marker, it's also easy to cut across the diagonal.
